Information about LIECHTENSTEIN On the banks of the River Rhine, nestling between Switzerland and Austria, Lichtenstein is a tiny principality set between several mountain ranges. Not surprisingly, its lifestyle and culture is very much like that of its neighbours, especially Switzerland. Among the attractions is the State Art Collection (Staatliche Kunstsammlung) which has good temporary exhibitions and includes parts of the art collection that the princes of Liechtenstein have acquired over the centuries. The landscape is quite spectacular wherever you are in the country, and its towns have traditional old houses with painted façades, and balconies and verandas enlivened by colourful displays of flowers. Low taxes and a strong banking system have helped to give Lichtenstein a thriving and important economy.
